Chapter 863
Chloe Roland pushed the door open and entered, her face clearly displeased.
She glanced back, shooting a glare at Mia Truman, before quickly walking over to Evelyn Ross.
Evelyn was somewhat surprised. "What brings you two here?"
"To see you, of course," Chloe said, lifting her chin. "Not welcome?"
Mia Truman also moved closer. "Yeah, are we not welcome?"
Evelyn smiled helplessly. "How could you not be welcome? It's just that your visit is so sudden."
She studied their faces, trying to discern something.
But both Chloe and Mia appeared normal, revealing nothing.
Evelyn decided to ask directly. "Alright, out with it. What do you want to do?"
"Shopping, dinner, and a movie!" Chloe immediately exclaimed.
Mia Truman curled her lip. "How boring. That's what good girls like. I was thinking of inviting you to a bar for drinks. I have a good bottle saved there."
Chloe's eyes lit up. "I want to go too!"
"Take you?" Mia looked at her with disdain. "If your overprotective big brother finds out, won't he come charging over?"
Chloe refused to back down. "As if your brother isn't the same. Doesn't your brother control you?"
"Still better than you. You're a few years older than me, yet you keep getting fooled by men."
"Oh, really? And you haven't been fooled? Where's your boyfriend? I heard he teamed up with his mistress to scam you!" Chloe put her hands on her hips, deliberately hitting a sore spot.
Mia's eyes instantly reddened. "You—"
"Enough," Evelyn interjected.
Chloe looked at Evelyn, aggrieved. "Evelyn, she started it."
Seeing them bicker, Evelyn suddenly laughed. "Fine. Since you want to drink, tonight we won't stop until we're drunk."
She turned to Alexander Vance. "Do we have good wine at home?"
"Yes," Alexander nodded. "The cellar has plenty, enough for you all. I'll go get some."
He finished speaking and left.
Evelyn sat down on the sofa.
Not long after, little Chloe Davis ran in.
"Mommy! Am I going to Grandpa's house now?"
Little Chloe had been staying at the Vance residence these past few days. Starting today, she was moving back to Mr. Valentine's place.
Evelyn nodded. "Yes. Be good when you move back."
"Okay~"
Chloe's soft little body threw itself into Evelyn's arms. "Mommy, you have to remember to come pick me up, okay~"
Seeing the child becoming more and more lively, with none of the timidness from when she was abused, Evelyn gently stroked her head. "Chloe, you must grow up happily."
Chloe tilted her head. "I'm happy when Mommy is here! I know Mommy has things to do. I'll wait for Mommy!"
Evelyn's eyes reddened, and she nodded firmly.
Chloe was led out by a security guard.
Her small figure skipped along, completely unaware of the sorrow of parting.
At the doorway, she turned back and waved to Evelyn. "Mommy, you absolutely must remember to come get me, okay~? Even though I like Grandpa's house and Daddy's house, I like Mommy the most, most, most~"
Evelyn nodded vigorously.
After watching Chloe leave, Alexander came upstairs carrying two bottles of red wine. "Is this enough?"
"Definitely not enough!"
A familiar voice came from the doorway.
Evelyn turned to look.
Joanna Sterling and Natalie Castillo had returned.
Natalie's expression was still unpleasant. She glared at Evelyn defiantly. "Hmph!"
Evelyn smiled. "Still angry?"
"Yes, furious! You heartless woman!" Natalie looked at Alexander. "Hurry up and bring all your good wine. Tonight, we're not stopping until we're drunk!"
Alexander looked at Evelyn.
Seeing her nod, he went back downstairs.
Soon, he returned with several bottles.
Natalie walked up to Evelyn, opened a bottle, and tilted her head back, drinking it down.
After finishing it in one go, she placed the empty bottle on the table and pointed at Evelyn. "I'm very angry, you know? Even though it was an act, how could you say those heartless lines! I want an apology!"
Evelyn looked at her. "Alright. How should I apologize?"
"You're a good cook, right? I want you to make me a full rabbit feast!"
Evelyn was taken aback. "We don't have any rabbit at home."
"No problem. I'll go buy some." Natalie stepped forward and patted Evelyn's shoulder. "When you come back, make it for me. You have to come back and cook for me, okay?"
