Chapter 780
A chill shot up Cecilia Evans's spine.
A thick, coppery taste flooded her throat.
She fought back the nausea, reaching out to steady Aaron Truman beside her.
Aaron swayed as she touched him.
His vision swam with dark spots.
He jerked his head up, looking forward.
The next second, he bent over and vomited.
After emptying his stomach, Aaron's mind cleared slightly.
He remembered something and turned to look at the dining table.
That cold dish with peanut sauce... he had absentmindedly taken a bite earlier.
Aaron felt a wave of bitter amusement.
What was wrong with him today?
He was severely allergic to peanuts.
How could he make such a stupid mistake?
It must have been when Cecilia was being ganged up on by the Evans and Valentine families.
His focus had slipped.
Aaron knew Cecilia had started the trouble.
He also knew Ethan Valentine and Kiki Cortez spoke without thinking.
But he still felt sorry for Cecilia.
In his view, the issue with Cecilia's parents was indeed her mother's fault.
But as he often said, Cecilia was just the daughter of a mistress.
What was her personal sin?
Besides, Cecilia had always been gentle and considerate towards him.
She was a kind girl.
The Evans family really shouldn't target her like this...
Aaron's thoughts were chaotic.
His throat grew tighter, as if something was blocking it.
He began to cough violently.
His entire face turned red.
His hands trembled as he fumbled for the allergy medication in his pocket.
Just as he pulled out the medicine, Cecilia lunged forward.
She grabbed his wrist.
"Aaron! Aaron, what's wrong?!"
Sebastian Truman and Mia Truman immediately stood up and rushed over.
"Second Brother, are you okay?" Mia was genuinely worried, supporting Aaron's other arm.
Cecilia, though feeling unwell herself, focused all her attention on Aaron.
She completely ignored her own discomfort.
Aaron shook his head, unable to speak.
Tears streamed down Cecilia's face.
She cried out, "Aaron, don't scare me! You can't be in danger!"
Mia glared at her.
"Shut up! Why are you wailing? My brother will be fine!"
Cecilia covered her face, sobbing loudly.
"I hope he's fine too, but he was like this after drinking the fish soup... Is there something in the soup?"
Her words made Mia pause.
Sebastian, however, knew his brother's allergy history.
He walked to the dining table and picked up the bowl of fish soup.
He sniffed it carefully.
He didn't detect anything unusual...
Natalie Castillo, who had been eating meat, heard this.
She subconsciously scooped a spoonful of soup and tasted it.
Immediately, she spat it back into the bowl.
"This soup has knotroot powder in it."
Evelyn Ross raised an eyebrow, looking at Cecilia.
She knew what it was, of course.
But others didn't.
For example—
Ethan Valentine panicked instantly.
"Knotroot powder? Is it poison? I drank some soup too. What do I do? Am I going to die?"
Kiki Cortez's eyes widened.
Without a word, she picked up her own bowl of soup and started gulping it down!
Ethan quickly stopped her.
"Kiki, what are you doing?"
Kiki wore a resolute expression.
"I'll die with you!"
Ethan was moved to tears.
"Kiki, why are you so foolish!"
Kiki said, "Even though I usually find you annoying, at a life-or-death moment, I can't abandon you! We have a marriage pledge in the Cortez Sect!"
Ethan gripped her hand tightly.
"Kiki..."
Kiki gazed back at him with deep affection.
"Second Senior Brother!"
The two of them exchanged loving looks.
Evelyn's lips twitched slightly.
She didn't speak.
Natalie, however, couldn't help rolling her eyes.
She was about to curse when Spencer Valentine beside her gently nudged her arm.
Natalie swallowed the word "idiots" on the tip of her tongue.
She had to give Third Brother some face.
She silently criticized Ethan and Kiki's stupidity in her mind.
Then she explained, "You two won't die."
"Huh?" They both looked at her in unison.
Natalie looked up at the ceiling.
"Knotroot powder isn't very harmful to ordinary people. It'll be metabolized in two or three days. At most, it'll upset your stomach a bit. Don't worry. Just eat porridge for a few days to recover."
Ethan and Kiki immediately sighed in relief.
"We're not going to die!"
Natalie pursed her lips.
Kiki pointed at Aaron, who was still vomiting.
"Then what's wrong with him? He looks like he's about to die."
Sebastian's mouth twitched.
He was about to explain that Aaron had a peanut allergy and would be fine after taking his medicine.
Before he could speak, Cecilia suddenly shouted.
"It's because Brother Aaron is sick! He has intestinal cancer! So these things are harmless to us, but they're deadly to him!"
After shouting this, Cecilia suddenly turned to look at Evelyn.
Tears welled in her eyes.
"Aunt Evelyn, I know you don't like me. But how could you harm Brother Aaron?"
