Chapter 633

Evelyn Ross sat across from Nicole Sterling.

Her posture was composed.

Nicole was utterly bewildered.

Her eyes widened, her voice trembling. "How could you possibly win? That was King! One of the world's strongest fighters right now!"

Evelyn said nothing.

Alexander Vance stood beside her, speaking calmly. "Because she is the First Senior Sister of the Cortez Sect."

"What?!"

Nicole shot to her feet, her chair scraping loudly against the floor.

She stared at Evelyn, disbelief etched on her face. "Impossible... That's absolutely impossible!"

Evelyn looked up at her. "Why is it impossible?"

Nicole's voice was sharp. "There are only two Sterling Family members in the entire region! One is 'Fox,' the other is 'Rabbit'! Since I pledged loyalty to Fox, of course I investigated Rabbit! Rabbit is weak-willed, mediocre since childhood, and even had a daughter... She's nothing like you!"

Evelyn thought of her sister, Grace Valentine, and her eyes darkened slightly.

She spoke slowly. "You investigated me. Did it ever occur to you that all of that might have been an act?"

Nicole's pupils contracted sharply.

She took a step back, her voice shaking. "I see... You fooled everyone! Rabbit, you're too cunning! The Sterling Family assigns codenames based on personality. How does someone like you resemble a rabbit? You're more cunning than a fox! You even deceived your own family, your own adoptive parents... You are terrifying!"

Evelyn frowned.

She stared at Nicole, her tone turning cold. "Enough nonsense. Tell me, where is the entrance to the Sterling Family?"

Nicole suddenly laughed.

It was a mocking laugh. "Telling you is useless. You can't get in."

"Why not?"

Nicole leaned back in her chair, speaking leisurely. "The main gate of the Sterling Family opens once every three months, for only seven days each time. The last opening was a month and a half ago. The one before that was four and a half months ago. If you want to enter, you'll have to wait another month and a half."

Evelyn's heart tightened.

Four and a half months ago...

That was exactly when she and her sister were attacked in San Francisco, and their mother was taken.

It matched.

She pressed immediately. "What do you mean 'opens'? Where exactly is the Sterling Family? What kind of 'gate' can block all detection?"

Nicole scoffed. "You know nothing, Rabbit. If you're so ignorant about the Sterling Family, how could you have hidden your strength for so long?"

She looked Evelyn up and down. "There's a sense of dissoSterlingce about you... The person you are, and the things you do, don't seem like the same person at all."

Evelyn stood up.

She walked over to Nicole, looking down at her. "I don't have time for your analysis. Answer my question."

Nicole's smile faded.

She was silent for a moment before finally speaking. "You think we know the location of the Sterling Family? No one knows. Every time we return home, we must first apply. Then someone comes to pick us up. We wear blindfolds the entire journey. We have no idea where we're going... The blindfold is only removed once we are inside the family compound."

Evelyn clenched her fists.

The Sterling Family was indeed cautious.

They even guarded against their own people.

Nicole suddenly asked, "Rabbit, it's been many years since you returned home, hasn't it? For those of us outside, even if we don't actively return, the family will summon us eventually. Your adoptive parents... have they never summoned you?"

Evelyn didn't know.

Had her sister, Grace Sterling, been summoned and refused? Or had she never been summoned at all?

She turned and walked out of the room.

Standing in the hallway, she dialed Mason Evans's number.

Mason answered quickly. "Evelyn?"

Evelyn asked directly, "What was my sister's exact situation when she was young, in the Sterling Family?"

Mason paused. "I don't know the details..."

"Tell me everything you do know."

Mason sighed.

He began slowly. "Your sister... when she was in the Sterling Family, she was actually quite special."
