Chapter 738

Aaron Truman was stunned for a moment.

He picked up his phone and dialed Cecilia Evans's number.

The receiver emitted a long, continuous busy tone.

No one answered.

Aaron's brow furrowed tightly as he hurried downstairs.

In the living room, Mrs. Evans was sitting on the sofa.

She had gone home yesterday and thought about it all night. The more she thought, the more she felt she couldn't just stand by and watch Aaron be deceived by Cecilia Evans.

The Truman family had been good to her.

She couldn't be ungrateful.

Early this morning, she had come again.

She wanted to try to persuade Aaron once more.

To make him see Cecilia Evans for who she really was.

To not completely sever ties with Evelyn Ross's side over a Cecilia Evans.

Mrs. Evans had just entered when she saw Aaron rushing down the stairs in a panic.

"What's wrong?" she immediately stood up.

Aaron's voice was urgent. "Cecilia is missing."

Mrs. Evans was taken aback. "Missing? Where could she have gone?"

She paused, her tone turning serious. "Aaron, think carefully. Someone like Cecilia Evans, who could even drive out and bury the adoptive father who raised her, how much genuine affection could she possibly have for you?"

Aaron shook his head vehemently. "That's not true, Aunt. That burial incident was forced on her by her mother. Her father died, and her mother didn't want to take responsibility, so she forced Cecilia to help. She wasn't the one in charge... And besides, she's sick now."

He suddenly thought of something, his eyes lighting up. "Could it be that she knows she's sick, so she deliberately hid the property deed to stop me from selling the house? She's doing it for my own good..."

As Aaron spoke, his eyes grew slightly red.

A wave of self-pity washed over him.

Mrs. Evans was utterly speechless.

She looked at Aaron and sighed. "Aaron, Cecilia Evans isn't that noble. If she were truly that noble, she wouldn't have fought so desperately for the inheritance back in the Vance family. Now that she has nothing, how could she possibly let you go? You just said the property deed is missing? Could it be she wants to secretly sell the house and use the money for her own treatment?"

Mrs. Evans had not a shred of goodwill towards Cecilia Evans.

She was already judging her with the worst possible assumptions.

But she never imagined that Cecilia Evans mistakenly believed Aaron was the one who was sick.

That was why she refused to sell the house.

Aaron immediately explained. "Aunt, you've misunderstood. I'm the one who wants to sell the house."

Mrs. Evans was stunned. "You want to sell it? Aaron, that house is in the city center, worth two million. That's what your parents saved their whole lives for, to help you get married. Are you really going to sell it?"

Aaron took a deep breath. "A house is just a thing, but people are alive. If the house is gone, I can still live here later. But if a person is gone, they're really gone. I've looked into it. There's a doctor in the United States who's very good at treating colon cancer. I want to take Cecilia to see him. There might still be hope..."

Mrs. Evans frowned deeply.

She patted Aaron's shoulder. "Aaron, how did our family end up with a romantic like you? I still think there's something wrong with Cecilia Evans. You should observe her a bit more."

Aaron shook his head. "Aunt, I believe in Cecilia."

Mrs. Evans grew anxious. "I believe in Evelyn Ross and Alexander Vance too! Those two people are clearly decent, not bad people. If Cecilia Evans is opposing them, then surely Cecilia is in the wrong!"

Aaron sighed helplessly. "Aunt, every family has its own troubles. Don't speak about Cecilia like that. She's already sick. Hearing you talk about her behind her back would hurt her. Besides, the Evans family didn't lose much by not cooperating with Evelyn Ross, right? The Truman family has never prioritized profit over family ties. Back when you had that misunderstanding with Evelyn Ross and brought the Evans family to their doorstep, almost starting a fight, didn't the Truman family stand behind you and support you? Why can't you support me?"

Mrs. Evans was left speechless.

She opened her mouth but couldn't find the words.

After a long moment, she finally said, "But..."

Aaron cut her off. "Cecilia is just a girl, a love child of the Vance family. It's normal for the Vance family not to like her. And that Evelyn Ross, you disliked her last time too. She had a conflict with you, and now she has a conflict with Cecilia. Haven't you considered that maybe the problem lies with her? Otherwise, why is her reputation so bad outside?"

Mrs. Evans grew more anxious. "No! My issue with Miss Ross was a misunderstanding! Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, we were fine. And it was my fault to begin with, I was being unreasonable..."

Aaron continued. "Even if you were being unreasonable, I've asked around. Since she returned to the Valentine family in New York, how much trouble has the Valentine family stirred up? They're acting very high-profile now. That style is completely incompatible with the Truman family. So the conflict between her and Cecilia is definitely their fault. Cecilia is so kind, it couldn't be her problem..."

"Ah, why can't you see through that little manipulator?" Mrs. Evans sighed heavily.

"Aunt, stop it!" Aaron's face darkened.

He turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

Aaron didn't go anywhere else.

He took out his phone and opened Cecilia's location tracking.

Ever since Cecilia got sick, he was afraid she might faint somewhere and he wouldn't be able to find her, so he had enabled location sharing on her phone.

Now it came in handy.

Where on earth did Cecilia go?

Following the location, Aaron quickly found Cecilia's position.

From a distance, he saw Cecilia talking to someone.

Aaron quietly moved closer.

Cecilia's voice drifted over faintly. "My husband is sick. I need to mortgage this house as soon as possible. I need the money... and a passport to go abroad. The faster, the better. I need to take the money and leave the country."
