Chapter 729
The call connected.
Lillian Evans's voice came through. "Richard, how are things on your end? Is everything settled?"
Richard Evans took a deep breath. "It's done. Come pick me up."
"Pick you up?" Lillian's tone was noticeably hesitant. "What was the outcome? What did Alexander say?"
Richard felt a wave of relief.
When Alexander Vance and Margaret Evans had been questioning him earlier, he had maintained a calm facade, but inwardly, he had been uncertain.
Yet Lillian's concerned inquiry restored his confidence.
Richard lowered his voice. "Alexander kicked me out. But it's fine, Lillian. We still have a chance to start over."
"What? How could he do that!" Lillian's voice rose sharply. "What do you mean, start over? You have another plan?"
"Of course. I still have all the connections and resources I built up over the years in the business world. Take out all the money, and we'll begin again."
Lillian was silent for a few seconds. "Money? What money?"
Richard was taken aback. "The money I've given you over the years."
"Oh, that." Lillian's tone suddenly became evasive. "Alexander really isn't giving you a single cent? That's too cruel!"
"Yes, too cruel!"
"And your father? What's his attitude?"
"We'll talk when we meet. Just come get me first."
"Alright, wait for me."
Lillian hung up immediately.
In an upscale villa district in New York.
Lillian put down her phone and looked anxiously at Cecilia Evans. "Your father was kicked out. If we bring him here, will we be implicated?"
Cecilia immediately picked up her own phone. "Mom, don't panic. Let me make some inquiries first."
She made several calls in succession.
After hanging up, Cecilia's face was pale. "Mom, I heard Alexander has put the word out in the circle. Anyone who dares to associate with Dad is going against the Vance family. If we take him in, we'll definitely be affected!"
Lillian panicked. "Then what do we do? Your father is waiting for us. If we don't go, he'll definitely come looking for us himself!"
Cecilia frowned deeply. "We can't stay in this house."
Lillian was stunned. "You mean…"
"Pack our things. We're leaving immediately."
…
Outside the Vance family estate.
The night wind carried a chill.
Richard, wearing only a shirt, rubbed his arms and looked into the distance again.
Margaret Evans, standing nearby, sneered. "On the phone just now, Lillian was asking all sorts of questions. Seems like she doesn't want to come get you?"
"Stop talking nonsense! Lillian isn't that kind of person!"
Richard immediately retorted.
Margaret gave a cold laugh. "Then what kind of person is she? Your true love?"
Richard snorted coldly and took out his phone. "Lillian's house has surveillance. I'll show you! She's definitely already on her way!"
He opened the surveillance app.
On the screen, a car slowly drove out of the courtyard. A driver was waiting at the gate.
Richard shoved the phone in front of Margaret. "See? Lillian has already left!"
Margaret glanced at it and was slightly taken aback.
Had she really been overthinking it?
Would Lillian actually come to pick him up?
But after a moment's thought, Margaret smiled again.
Whether she was overthinking it or not didn't matter. As long as someone took care of Richard and he didn't come bothering Julian, she was happy to see it.
Richard said smugly, "Seeing her about to leave, that's a slap in your face, isn't it?"
Margaret shot him a glance. "I hope she keeps slapping my face. And I hope you don't come looking for Julian in the future."
"Don't worry. I'd rather starve than come looking for you two ungrateful wretches!"
Richard glared viciously at Julian. "All you care about is money. You won't come to a good end! Julian, do you think following Alexander will get you benefits? He took my shares, but he didn't give you any, did he? He's not running a charity!"
The late Mrs. Vance had divided the inheritance equally precisely to prevent Richard from causing trouble.
Richard had figured it out now, and his face darkened further.
"All of you, you only care about profit! You're nothing like my Lillian, who only has me in her heart! You'll get your comeuppance sooner or later!"
Margaret said sarcastically, "Then let's wait until your Lillian comes to pick you up."
Richard pointed at the phone screen. "Lillian is about to leave. And you're still here trying to drive a wedge between us…"
Before he could finish, the surveillance feed showed the villa door opening.
Lillian and Cecilia walked out.
A smile appeared on Richard's face. He was about to speak when he saw several suitcases being dragged behind Lillian…
