Chapter 712
Richard Evans frowned deeply.
"How did you let yourself get into this state!"
Margaret Evans immediately retorted.
"What state? I'm perfectly fine!"
She then craned her neck to look outside the door.
"Is Julian not here yet?"
Margaret had indeed been afraid of Richard in the past.
But after living alone outside for this period, she suddenly understood.
What she had feared was never the divorce itself, but change.
Julian could earn money to support the family.
She could still stay at home every day.
With the living expenses, she had no worries about food and drink.
She just needed to go out to buy groceries herself.
Most importantly, after leaving that house, the expectations she held for Richard in her heart suddenly vanished.
Before, facing the empty hundred-square-meter master bedroom alone every night, loneliness would surge over her like a tide.
She always hoped Richard would come home more often to keep her company, instead of going to that mistress.
But now, the sixty-square-meter small apartment was warm and cozy.
There was an activity area for seniors downstairs in the complex.
When she first started doing square dancing, she felt a bit embarrassed.
But later, she gradually blended into the crowd.
After living through these days, she genuinely felt quite good!
It turned out that leaving that gilded cage, life outside could be so colorful.
It turned out that stepping away from high society, an ordinary person's life could be this free and easy.
Hearing her say this, Richard scoffed.
"He's coming by bus. How could he possibly be here now?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Julian came jogging over.
"Mom, I took the bus and then transferred to the subway. The subway is really fast, saves even more time than driving."
Richard was speechless.
Looking at the mother and son, Richard could barely maintain his composure.
He sneered coldly.
"Here for the divorce? Did you bring all the documents?"
Margaret was taken aback.
"Oh, right."
She immediately lowered her head to rummage through her bag.
Richard secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
As expected...
He mocked.
"You didn't forget your ID, did you?"
The next second, Margaret pulled her ID card out of her bag.
"Got it, got it. Let's go, let's hurry inside."
Richard was speechless again.
He stared blankly at Margaret, his expression darkening.
"Margaret Evans, are you really going to divorce me?"
Margaret looked surprised.
"Wasn't it you who wanted the divorce?"
A sudden, inexplicable anger flared in Richard's heart.
A sense of irritation made him almost lose control.
"Fine, divorce it is then! Let's go!"
The two walked into the City Hall together, only to be informed.
Divorce requires a thirty-day cooling-off period.
Richard was puzzled.
He inexplicably felt a sense of relief.
The staff handed over the forms, and they each filled them out.
When Richard saw the section on asset division, he sneered.
"You really don't want anything?"
Margaret looked at him.
"When I married you back then, my dowry wasn't much, and I've spent it all myself over the years. Since that's the case, then I don't want anything."
Richard scoffed.
"Weren't you always scheming for my money before? Every time the company dividends came in, you'd immediately demand them!"
Thinking of the past, Margaret smiled self-deprecatingly.
"Yes, that's because I knew if you didn't spend it on me, you'd spend it on that mistress. I didn't want you spending it on her, so I always kept an eye on your money."
Richard was stunned.
Margaret continued.
"But not anymore. After the divorce, you can spend as much as you want on her. It has nothing to do with me anymore!"
Richard felt a knot of stifling anger in his chest.
Especially seeing Margaret's carefree attitude of wanting nothing, his fury burned even hotter.
But he didn't even know what he was angry about.
He sneered.
"Alright then, don't regret it!"
With that, he turned and walked out.
Lillian Evans and Cecilia Evans were waiting at the entrance.
Seeing him come out, they immediately approached.
"Is it done?"
Richard spoke.
"There's a one-month cooling-off period."
Lillian immediately frowned.
"What kind of rule is that? Could it be that Margaret doesn't really want the divorce and is playing tricks?"
Cecilia quietly tugged at her sleeve.
"Mom, it's a new policy."
Lillian then fell silent.
She looked at Margaret again and deliberately asked Richard.
"Richard, how much compensation are we going to give Margaret?"
Richard was inwardly irritated.
"No need to give any."
"Not giving any?" Lillian pretended to be surprised.
"Then what will Margaret do for her future livelihood?"
Margaret happened to walk over just then.
"No need for you to worry. My son can earn money to support me!"
Lillian sighed.
"Margaret, why must you be like this? Just for the sake of pride? Don't you feel bad making Richard feel so guilty?"
Margaret scoffed.
"Would you let him give me half the shares?"
Lillian's face instantly stiffened.
Richard sneered.
"So you are still coveting my property after all!"
Margaret looked at this man she had loved her entire life.
She was fifty now.
How many years did she have left in her life?
She sneered.
"Richard Evans, open your eyes and see clearly. The one who has always been scheming for your money is her!"
