Chapter 588
"You said you saved me? Susan, you've deceived me so thoroughly!"
A furious roar exploded from the second-floor hallway.
Everyone turned in unison.
Preston Valentine was helping a weak Joanna Sterling down the stairs.
He stared at Susan, his eyes blazing with fire.
His entire body was taut like a fully drawn bow.
Susan froze. "Preston, what do you mean?"
"What do I mean?"
Preston sneered. "When you saved me all those years ago, you said something. Do you remember?"
Susan looked blank. "What did I say?"
"You don't remember?" Preston's voice was icy. "Then you weren't the one who saved me!"
Susan panicked. "How could that be! I just... it's been so long, I forgot!"
Preston let out a derisive laugh. "Susan, you're such a good actress! I can't believe I was fooled by you for so long!"
Susan grew frantic.
She jumped up. "Preston Valentine! Are you really going to deny your life-saving debt for this woman now?"
Her brother immediately chimed in. "How dare you, Preston! The reporters are right outside! Do you believe we won't expose the Valentines for their ingratitude?"
Preston sneered. "Expose us? Save it for the police."
Both Susan and her brother were stunned. "What?"
Preston spoke coldly. "I've already called the police. You attempted to murder Joanna Sterling. The Valentine family's security cameras recorded the entire incident. You can explain the rest to the officers."
Susan gasped in shock.
She looked at her brother, then turned and bolted for the door. "I can't be taken away! Preston, you bastard!"
If the police took her, the poison would take effect while she was in custody.
She would absolutely not get the antidote!
She had to escape immediately!
Unfortunately, she had just reached the door when she collided with Evelyn Ross and Alexander Vance entering.
Susan raised her hand to attack Evelyn.
Before she could even touch her, Evelyn kicked her flying!
Susan's meager fighting skills were barely enough to deal with Joanna.
But comparing speed and strength with Evelyn?
She was utterly outmatched!
After kicking her, Evelyn stood casually by the door. "Susan, you're not escaping today."
Susan lay sprawled on the floor.
She curled up in pain, unable to straighten up.
She looked at Preston. "Preston, how could you do this to me... I'm your savior..."
Preston sneered. "Still lying even now!"
He pointed at Joanna. "The one who saved me back then was clearly Joanna! It had nothing to do with you!"
Susan was completely dumbfounded. "What are you saying?"
Beside him, Joanna spoke slowly. "I never knew you were bullying me under the pretense of a life-saving debt. But that debt is mine."
Joanna looked at Susan. "Did you know that the person who pulled Preston from the car at the accident scene all those years ago was me!"
Susan's pupils constricted sharply. "Impossible... that's impossible! You're lying! You must be lying!"
Susan indeed had not saved anyone.
That day at the hospital, she overheard Preston looking for his savior, and since that person wasn't present, she falsely claimed the credit.
She never imagined that Preston's savior was actually Joanna?!
How could it be...
How could the world be this small?!
Susan slumped to the floor, utterly defeated.
She knew her chance was completely gone.
Preston might seem simple, but the Valentine family was not to be trifled with... She had made such a huge mistake; the Valentines would never let her off...
She swallowed hard, nervously clenching her fists.
Suddenly, she crawled on her hands and knees to Preston's feet. "Preston, she's the one lying! I really did save you! You can't treat me like this..."
"Is that so?"
Preston bent down and grabbed Joanna's arm.
He revealed a scar on her arm.
The scar looked like a burn.
But when Preston pressed hard, the "burn" was directly peeled off!
It wasn't a burn at all, but a makeup prosthetic applied to the skin!
Preston looked at her coldly. "If it was really you, how do you explain this scar?"
Susan was speechless.
Preston said slowly, "Anything else to say? Don't say it to me. Save the rest for the police. They'll be here soon."
"No! Don't!"
Susan suddenly became agitated.
She looked sharply at everyone present and screamed hoarsely, "You can't do this to me! Do you even know, you can't treat me like this!"
At that moment, Marcus Valentine walked down from upstairs.
With such a commotion in the living room, he had naturally heard everything.
He had just descended when he heard Susan suddenly shout, "Do you even know! Your eldest brother can't have children anymore! It was me who poisoned him! Hahahahaha..."
