Chapter 580

Evelyn charged towards the bathroom.

Preston hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Little sister, Joanna is taking a shower. She won't run away. I won't go in to check..."

Before he could finish, Evelyn kicked the bathroom door open with one foot.

A startled cry came from inside.

Susan screamed, "Little sister, what are you doing?!"

Preston was stunned. "Susan?"

He hurried into the bathroom. He saw Susan and a Sterlingny standing inside. He was taken aback. "What are you doing here? Where's Joanna?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, he saw the scene in the bathtub clearly.

Joanna was completely submerged in the water!

Preston and Evelyn both gasped in shock. They immediately stepped forward to pull her out. But at that moment, a gurgling sound of water was heard.

Their movements halted.

The water in the bathtub was rapidly draining. Soon, Joanna's head was exposed...

Rewind one minute.

Joanna was being held down forcefully by Susan. She felt weak all over and was almost suffocating.

Her vision darkened. Her consciousness blurred.

Just as she was about to give up, she caught a glimpse of the bottom of the bathtub. It was a hazy white, like the entrance to heaven.

Why would there be a plug in heaven?

Wait, that was the bathtub drain!

Joanna understood instantly.

She stopped struggling. Using the last of her strength, she arduously raised her arm. She slowly reached towards that drain valve.

Her fingertip finally touched the cold metal.

She pulled hard.

"Gurgle..."

The sound of rushing water suddenly erupted. The water in the bathtub drained rapidly.

Susan and the Sterlingny both cried out in surprise.

They tried to turn on the faucet to refill the water, but it was too late.

The drainage was much faster than the refill.

Soon, Joanna's head broke the surface. Soaked through, she lay limp in the bathtub, gasping for air.

Preston rushed over and grabbed her arm.

Joanna only had a breath left. She kept spitting out water from her mouth. Her whole body was immobile.

Evelyn stepped forward and pressed on her abdomen, forcing the accumulated water out. Then she coldly looked at Susan and the Sterlingny.

"What's going on?" Evelyn demanded sharply. "What were you doing?"

The Sterlingny glanced guiltily at Susan and lowered her head.

Susan spoke up. "Little sister, Joanna has already admitted she was the one who poisoned him. I came to interrogate her about the formula and proportions of the poison. If we find out, Third Uncle can be saved!"

Evelyn frowned. "She admitted it?"

Joanna lay weakly in the bathtub. Hearing this, she immediately glared at Susan with hatred.

She wanted to speak, but no sound came out.

She could only listen as Susan twisted the truth. "Yes. I just thought, if she was the one who poisoned him, she must have a motive. So I checked her bank card transactions. Guess what? Last night at eight, one million dollars was deposited into her account!"

Evelyn let out a scoff.

Susan continued fabricating. "Why would someone receive so much money for no reason? I came to interrogate her, and she admitted it!"

"You... you're lying!" Joanna finally caught her breath. She grabbed Preston's hand and looked at Susan with resentment. "I didn't..."

"Didn't what? Didn't have one million deposited into your account? Should we check right now?"

Joanna choked. "I..."

Susan threw her phone at her. "Check it!"

Joanna didn't move.

Susan sneered. "What? Feeling guilty?"

Joanna bit her lip hard. Trembling, she opened her mobile banking app and checked her balance.

One million dollars was clearly displayed.

She clicked on the transaction details in shock, confirming it was transferred in yesterday.

She looked at Susan in disbelief.

Susan scoffed. "Preston, see? This is the evidence!"

"No... I don't know who transferred it..." Joanna was almost crying. "I was in this room all day yesterday. I didn't..."

Preston stared at her, his face dark and silent.

A wave of disappointment surged in Joanna's heart. She turned to Evelyn. "Miss, I really didn't. Please investigate. You must find out the truth. I'm innocent!"

Tears rolled down.

But she was soaked through. It was impossible to tell if they were water droplets or tears.

Evelyn looked at Susan. Before she could speak, Susan pointed at the Sterlingny. "Joanna, now that your savior is here, you want to deny it? You clearly admitted it earlier. The Sterlingny can testify! Isn't that right? Speak!"

The last sentence was a shout at the Sterlingny.

The Sterlingny jumped in fright. She cautiously looked at Evelyn and Preston.

When Evelyn's gaze swept over her, she immediately lowered her head, not daring to meet her eyes.

She looked at Joanna in the bathtub. She knew if she didn't pin this on Joanna today, her own crime of cooperating with Susan to bully someone would be confirmed!

She took a deep breath and spoke. "Yes, that's right!"

She looked at Joanna. "She admitted it earlier. That's why Miss Susan and I were pressing her. We also thought the Valentine family is too focused on evidence and might not be ruthless enough. We wanted to make a contribution..."

"Sterlingny Lopez!" Joanna screamed hoarsely. "Why are you framing me? Why?!"

The Sterlingny took a frightened step back.

Susan blocked her way. "Joanna, trying to intimidate Sterlingny Lopez in front of so many people? I'm here! Sterlingny Lopez, if there's more, say it all! The money in the bank card is physical evidence. The two of us are witnesses. Joanna, you can't wash yourself clean!"

Joanna listened to their words and lowered her head in despair. "It wasn't me... It wasn't..."

She let out a bitter laugh. But then she heard a cold voice.

"That's enough!"

Joanna froze. She looked at the speaker in disbelief.

Preston.

She stared at him blankly.

Susan looked at Joanna triumphantly. "Joanna, did you hear that? Preston said that's enough! Stop making excuses!"

She crossed her arms, looking smug. She looked at Joanna as if looking at a dead person.

Joanna clenched her fists in despair.

Trembling, she tried to stand up from the bathtub. But then she heard Preston speak heavily.

"Susan, I was talking to you! You've had enough. Stop your act right now!"
