Chapter 527
Evelyn lowered her gaze.
"You don't need my opinion."
There was still time before the wedding.
She would find evidence of Susan's affair with that man.
Then she could present it to Preston.
This farce would end naturally.
Susan immediately chimed in.
"So, little sister, you agree?"
"Wonderful! We can finally be together openly!"
Preston, overwhelmed with joy, picked Susan up and spun her around.
Happiness radiated from their faces, almost overflowing.
Susan gently pushed Preston away.
She turned to Evelyn, her face wearing a perfectly measured look of concern.
"Thank you, little sister. But…"
She sighed.
"Thinking about Preston and I finally getting our happy ending… I can't help but think of big brother… Mina has been giving him the cold shoulder for so long. When does she plan to make up?"
All eyes in the living room turned to Evelyn.
Everyone had noticed Marcus's recent gloom at home.
Evelyn's tone was flat.
"I don't know."
Susan looked surprised.
"Little sister, how could you not know? Isn't Mina staying at your place?"
She took two steps forward, speaking earnestly.
"They say a best friend's words carry the most weight. Since your sister-in-law is staying with you, you should put in a good word for big brother. It's not like they have no feelings for each other. Once things are cleared up, won't they reconcile?"
Evelyn looked up, her gaze cool.
"If Mina refuses to forgive him, what can I do?"
Susan immediately suggested,
"I heard Mina had a falling out with the Sherwoods. Why don't you kick her out, little sister? Then she'd have nowhere to go but back to the Valentine home. She'd naturally make up with big brother."
Evelyn let out a cold laugh.
The calculation was so transparent.
She lowered her eyes.
"My affairs are none of your concern."
Susan immediately looked at Preston with a hurt expression.
"Preston, did I say something wrong?"
Preston frowned.
"Your sister-in-law just had a miscarriage. She hasn't recovered yet. How could you suggest Evelyn kick her out?"
Susan quickly apologized.
"Oh, I wasn't thinking. I'm sorry. I'm just worried about big brother. Hearing you talk every day about how miserable he is… I just wanted to help. We're all his family. Shouldn't we look out for him, rather than for outsiders?"
The words were like a thorn, piercing Evelyn's heart.
Wasn't she the one "looking out for the outsider"?
Another veiled accusation.
Sure enough, several of her brothers glanced furtively at Evelyn.
Their eyes held a hint of displeasure, but no one spoke.
Susan acted oblivious to the shift in atmosphere.
She sighed and continued,
"I remember when your sister-in-law married into the family, the Sherwood dowry was quite substantial. It's a pity my family background is ordinary. My dowry will probably be rather shabby. I hope I won't embarrass the Valentines."
Preston immediately took her hand.
"I'm marrying you, not your dowry. The Valentine fortune is enough for us to live on for generations!"
Uncle Valentine scolded from the side.
"Useless! Planning to live off your big brother your whole life?"
Preston grinned.
"Isn't it good that I'm not fighting big brother for the family assets? If I really started fighting, wouldn't the family be thrown into chaos?"
Uncle Valentine waved a hand.
"Do as you please. I can't be bothered."
He turned and went upstairs.
Only the siblings remained in the living room.
Evelyn kept her head down.
Her fingers moved quickly across her phone screen.
Susan leaned closer, her tone concerned.
"Little sister, what are you looking at? Actually, I still want to talk to you about big brother and your sister-in-law… Even though I'm not officially part of the family yet, I want everyone to be happy. This stalemate between them is a problem. I know you're close to Mina and side with her. But big brother has been good to you too."
She turned to the other brothers.
"You all want them to reconcile, right?"
The others nodded.
Marcus's despondency lately made it clear how much he cared for Mina.
Everyone knew Mina had been wronged…
But blood is thicker than water.
Compared to Mina, they wanted Marcus to be happy.
Susan continued,
"So, sometimes, using a little method to achieve the goal is fine. As the saying goes, it doesn't matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice. I think my suggestion is really workable. It might be unfair to your sister-in-law, but she still has feelings for big brother. Once they reconcile, they definitely won't blame you. Right?"
Evelyn scoffed.
If she really kicked Mina out, forcing her back to the Valentine home, how would Mina ever hold her head up there again?
She kept scrolling on her phone, not responding.
Susan pressed on.
"Little sister, you're not unwilling, are you? Do you really want to see big brother end up alone? In your heart, do you even care about big brother? Do you care about your Valentine brothers?"
Her words made the brothers all look at Evelyn again.
Evelyn: "…"
She suddenly let out a cold laugh.
She raised her head and held up her phone screen.
"Is this your phone's lock screen?"
Susan was taken aback.
She looked carefully.
"Yes! This interface… it's exactly like my phone."
"Oh, good." Evelyn's tone was calm.
"Because I hacked into your phone."
Susan's face instantly turned deathly pale!
She swallowed nervously.
"You… you hacked my phone? Why?"
"No reason. Just wanted to show some concern for my future sister-in-law." Evelyn curled her lips.
"Let's see what's in your photo album."
She opened Susan's photo album.
The intimate photos of Susan with that young man were immediately visible.
Under Susan's horrified stare, Evelyn raised the phone higher.
She directly showed it to Preston and the other brothers.
"The boy I saw at the mall last time… it's him."
