Chapter 483
Thomas Watson was in the study, trying to reason with him.
"Boss, forcing them to cooperate with Miss Ross is simple enough."
"There's really no need to go down the acquisition route…"
"When we established our overseas operations, you personally stated we wouldn't target any Chinese enterprises."
"Besides, these domestic assets are insignificant to you."
"Why engage in a fight where we lose as much as we gain?"
Alexander Vance's expression remained cold and detached.
"The Vance Group's entry into New York has already disrupted the balance among the five major families."
"Eliminating the Evans family will allow the Vances to smoothly join the ranks of the five major families."
Thomas smirked.
"Stop making excuses! Wouldn't six major families be just fine?"
Alexander glanced at his computer screen.
"I find five more pleasing than six."
Thomas was baffled.
This was clearly all for Miss Ross!
And here he was, pretending otherwise. How infuriating!
The original plan was a gradual acquisition.
But then Mrs. Amelia suddenly went to the Nan residence today.
She took Miss Ross out to apologize.
That's when the Boss completely lost his composure!
Just as Thomas was about to continue persuading him, the study door suddenly opened.
Evelyn Ross walked in.
Alexander's previously stern face softened instantly the moment she entered.
He stood up and asked gently, "Why are you back so late? You must be exhausted today."
His tone then turned sharp. "Did the Evans family give you any trouble?"
Evelyn waved her hand dismissively. "No."
"They're probably grateful to me right now. Why would they cause trouble?"
Alexander was slightly taken aback. "What?"
Evelyn recounted the day's events in detail.
She told him about discovering Jane's jade pendant might be connected to the Evans family.
She mentioned seeking out John Evans for information.
Then going to find Jane.
Finally, facilitating the reunion between Mrs. Evans and Jane on the hospital rooftop.
She concluded with a sigh. "Mrs. Evans and Justin both looked terrible."
"Of course. The daughter and sister they've cherished since childhood…"
"To realize they've been mistreating her all along…"
"They must be filled with regret now."
Alexander was silent for a moment. "So… the cooperation with the Evans family is settled?"
"Yes, I gave them the contract. They'll probably sign it in a day or two…"
Before she could finish, her phone rang.
It was the director of the Nora Research Institute.
"Director Nora, the Evans Group just transferred six billion in advance payment to our company."
Evelyn was puzzled.
After a moment's pause, she replied, "Just accept it for now. They were going to pay eventually anyway."
"Alright. I'll go to the Evans Group tomorrow to expedite the contract."
"What kind of situation is this? The contract isn't even signed, and the money's already here…"
After the director hung up, Evelyn shook her head and stretched.
"I'm going to take a shower."
She had been running around all day and was utterly exhausted.
After Evelyn entered the bedroom, Thomas's voice came from the computer.
"Boss, do you find six more pleasing than five now?"
Alexander's response was curt. "Get lost."
"Understood. I'll notify them to lift the sanctions on the Evans Group then~"
Without hesitation, Alexander closed his laptop, cutting off the call.
—
At the Evans residence.
The eldest and second sons of the Evans family had rushed back from out of town.
They bombarded with questions as soon as they entered.
"What's going on? Why was the Evans Group suddenly sanctioned?"
"Who did we offend? Several overseas partners have suspended cooperation with us!"
"There's no news domestically yet, but friends abroad said someone started shorting our stock tonight!"
"They're also trying to acquire our company!"
"Who is behind this? They're so elusive…"
"Where's Mom? And the third brother? Why aren't they home?"
Amid the chaos, the eldest Evans's phone rang.
It was a partner, speaking urgently. "Mr. Evans, it's a misunderstanding! A huge misunderstanding!"
The eldest Evans was stunned. "What?"
The other party quickly explained. "We made a mistake."
"It turns out that influential figure wasn't targeting you after all."
"Haha, it was all a misunderstanding! They've verbally called off the sanctions against you!"
"Our cooperation continues as usual!"
The Evans family members were speechless.
What was this?!
They were being toyed with!
…
How the Evans family experienced their world collapsing and then being saved was of no concern to Alexander.
Scaring them a little was nothing.
Who told them to give Evelyn a hard time before?
That night, Alexander held Evelyn from behind as they lay in bed.
They spoke in hushed tones. "So, Marcus was truly set up?"
Evelyn nodded. "Yes."
"But I've investigated. The three doctors who examined him have no connection to each other."
"He specifically chose three people who couldn't possibly all give wrong results."
"Yet they were all wrong."
"Don't you find it strange? Why would everyone in the medical industry lie?"
Alexander's eyes darkened. "You know technological monopolies exist in this world."
Evelyn looked at him, surprised.
Alexander spoke calmly. "There are many unknown organizations and clubs in this world."
"Their goal is to monopolize global technology."
"As long as they control the top technology in any industry, they are the kings of that industry!"
Evelyn pursed her lips. "Are you saying there's such an organization in the medical industry?"
"That their king ordered Marcus must be diagnosed with azoospermia?"
"So no doctor in the world dares to disobey?"
Alexander nodded. "It's possible."
Evelyn said softly, "I think you've hit on the truth."
The Nan family was so mysterious.
She and Mason had been searching globally for so long without any leads.
This proved there were indeed many capable people hidden in the shadows.
While ordinary people lived their daily lives…
How many geniuses were secretly manipulating global economic development and technological progress…
As Evelyn and Alexander lost in their respective thoughts, Alexander's phone suddenly rang.
It was Eleanor Vance. "You brat, I'm already in New York. When are you coming to see me?"
Alexander smiled, looking tenderly at Evelyn. "Grandmother, I'll find time to visit."
Eleanor hummed in response. "Brat, I heard you're engaged again?"
"This time to that Ashcroft family's eldest daughter?"
"How could you? It hasn't even been half a year since my granddaughter-in-law passed."
"You're engaged to someone else. Aren't you afraid she'll be sad?"
Alexander was momentarily stunned, then chuckled.
After a while, he said, "Grandmother, she won't be sad."
"Because she wants me to be engaged to the Ashcroft family's eldest daughter more than anyone else."
As he spoke, he moved closer to Evelyn's ear.
Evelyn glared at him fiercely.
Eleanor sighed. "Brat, I'm sure my granddaughter-in-law wants you to move on quickly."
"But not like this."
"I heard you've been clinging to that eldest daughter all day?"
"Even working as her driver…"
"You weren't this much of a simp when you were with my granddaughter-in-law."
Alexander coughed awkwardly. "Grandmother, there's no need for personal attacks."
"Hmph, I don't care. You're a simp!"
"And let me tell you, I won't acknowledge that eldest daughter you're engaged to!"
"To me, there's only one granddaughter-in-law!"
Eleanor's tone was petulant.
Alexander suddenly laughed. "Grandmother, how about I let the Ashcroft family's eldest daughter say hello to you?"
He moved the phone to Evelyn's ear.
